Using Kameleoon

Using Kameleoon requires 2 steps: opening your account from our website and installing Kameleoon on your website.

Creating your Kameleoon account

First of all, visit our website at http://kameleoon.com and click on the “Sign up” button on the top right of the page. Fill in the form with the required fields to create your Kameleoon account.

You have completed the first step. Let's install Kameleoon on your website for everything to be operational.

Note : You can configure as many websites as you wish with Kameleoon. This could be useful if you have multiple websites to test. For example, a mobile website on top of our desktop version, or if you wish to try Kameleoon on a pre-production environment.

Installing Kameleoon

The installation is quick and easy but you will need to change the source code of your HTML pages in order to insert a JavaScript tag, which includes your site code. This script will never change, whichever web personalizations you are running on your website.

We recommend adding the Kameleoon tag just after the <head> elements of your HTML pages. For further information, read our article Where to insert the JavaScript tag.

This script is automatically generated when you sign up to our website. To obtain it, you need to be connected to your account at https://back-office.kameleoon.com.

Then, use the left menu to go to the “Configured sites” page.

For the website of your choice, click on “Installation”.

Here you will find your JavaScript code to insert in your webpages.

Tip: It is advisable to install this script on all pages of your website. It is possible to install it only on tested pages, but you would miss some functionalities covering the entire website (in the targeting options of an A/B test, for example).
Tip: This snippet can also be loaded asynchronously and set up with a custom timeout trigger. To do so, please read "What is the difference between synchronous and asynchronous loading of Kameleoon?"

Congratulations, you have successfully set up Kameleoon on your website! However, if your website requires a specific configuration, please see our Advanced Installation Guide.

Creating a first web personalization

To create your first web personalization, you need to be connected to your account at https://back-office.kameleoon.com

Creating a segment

You cannot launch a web personalization if you have not defined the segment. Therefore, we recommend to create the segment before launching your personalization.

To do so, use the left menu to go to the “Configured sites” page.

On this page you will find, for each website set up with your account, the following information:

To add a segment, click on “0 segment(s) parameter(s)”: it will lead you to the “Creating a segment” page.

Choose a name for your segment and select your conditions with a drag and drop in the “Segment definition” part on the right.

If you encounter difficulties at this step, please see our article about Setting up segments.

Once you have defined your segment, click on the “Validate” button to save it. You will now find it in the list of your segments and you will be able to select it while creating your web personalization.

Creating your first web personalization

To create your fist web personalization, go to your homepage. You can access it by clicking on “Homepage” on the left menu.

On click on the “New personalization” button, a pop-in opens, allowing you to choose the website (if you have several websites set up) and the name of your personalization.

On click on the "Validate" button, the personalization creation page opens.

Fill in the fields to create your web personalization:

  • Website

The website you selected in the previous step appears here.

  • Personalization title

Your personalization name will appear here. You can change it if you want to.

You can also precise the description of your personalization and add tags: this is not mandatory but highly recommended to help you find your personalization once you will have several personalization created.

  • Segment exposed to this personalization

In this drop-down menu, you will find all the segments you have created. If you have not created any segment yet, or if you want to use a segment not created yet, click on “Add a new segment” to access the segment builder. Note that you will leave the page.

  • Where would you like to display your personalization?

You can choose to display your personalization either inside the content of your pages, above your pages or via an email.

  • Goals selection

Choose one or several goals to associate with your personalization. If you choose several goals, you will have to define one of them as the main goal for this personalization.

If you have not set up any goal yet, you can click on “Create new objective”. Note that you will leave the page.

  • Reporting tools

Your results will be available in Kameleoon. You can also consult them with your regular reporting tool. To do so, select the reporting tool of your choice in the list. Note that you must have set up the reporting tool in your personal space in order to select it.

  • Display settings

You can refine your web personalization with the display settings. Five parameters are available: capping, planning, micro-targeting, priorization and scenarization.

For further information about options, please see our article Display settings.

To launch your personalization, click on the “Activate” button.

Simulation mode

You can launch a simulation of your personalization, either if it is online or not.

To do this, simply click on the “Simulate” button located on the bottom of the page when you are creating or editing your personalization. The simulation opens in a new window on your browser. Several modes are available: for further information about the simulation mode, please see our article Previewing and simulating a personalization.

To launch your personalization, go back to the previous page and click on the “Validate” button.

Setting up conversion goals

By default, Kameleoon reporting tool is already configured with all of your websites.

To configure conversion goals, go to your preferences, then click on “Kameleoon” in the “reporting” section.

By default, the “Engagement” goal is already set up, allowing you to know if the visitor has visited other pages after the landing page. The engagement can be considered as the opposite of the bounce rate.

To add a new goal in order to analyze the access rate of a page, the number of pages view, the amount of time spent or any other goal, please see our article Setting up conversion goals.

Analyzing the results

To see the results of your web personalization, log in to your Kameleoon account at https://back-office.kameleoon.com. Then, click on the “All persos” button.

Place your mouse above the personalization of your choice and click on “See results”.

This will open the results page.
